Objective of the Workshop/Seminar/Activity: The objective of the session was to make the students aware about IIC, Social entrepreneurship, to apprise the participants with the scope of social entrepreneurship and to give the insights about the Journey of a Social Entrepreneur Ms. SaloniSacheti who is the founder of Baansuli.

Overall Report of the activity:IISU Incubation Centre in coordination with Rotary Club Jaipur - Gurukul &Startup Cell of the University are organizing 4 sessions on “Social Entrepreneurship - Experiencing the Journey of an Entrepreneur”. This event was the first session and was the orientation of IIC started with the basic introduction by Ms. Aditi R. Khandelwal. After that Dr.Amita Sharma took the session forward with the basic introduction of IIC i.e., Institution’s Innovation Council. With the introduction, Dr. Amitaalso talked about how IIC originated, why there is a need for students to know about it and why are we having this orientation.
Dr. Amita told that IIC has been designed to inculcate the innovative ideas and to bring more business awareness among the students. MHRD and Govt. of India have established MIC (MHRD’s Innovation Cell) to systematically foster the culture of Innovation amongst all the Higher Education Institutes. The main mandate of MIC is to encourage, inspire and nurture the young talent so the they can bring their innovative ideas to the current or the future problem and to inspire them to convert those problems into business prototypes. Bringing the session forward she also told that the major focus of IIC is to create a vibrant local innovation ecosystem, start-up supporting mechanism in HEIs, establish function ecosystem for scouting ideas and pre-incubation ideas and develop better cognitive ability for technological students.
Dr. Amita discussed the functions of IICs with the help of a chart which made them easier to understand. The functions were like to conduct various activities related to innovation, identify and reward innovation and share success stories so it will motivate the students, organize periodic workshops/ seminars/ interactions with entrepreneurs, investors and professionals related to idea building competition with the help of hackathons so that the student will get involved in all these activities and it may help them develop their idea, etc.
After this Dr. Amita started to talk about the IIC which has been established in IIS University among various other Institutes. ISS has an incubation centre with Institution’s Innovation Council which have different cells working with the same sector bringing the innovative ideas, transforming those ideas and mentoring them at each level of their growing stage. Further discussion goes with the purpose of all these councils and cells which are to provide a platform to nurture innovative ideas, to provide training to develop and enhance skills, to give an exposure to inculcate the entrepreneur skills and to participate in activities conducted by MIC. Moving forward she discussed the cells in IIC which are Incubation centre, Innovation activity cell, start-up activity cell, internship cell, IPR cell and chrysalis E-cell all these cells have certain goals and they also perform certain kind of activities related to their functional areas.
Dr. Amita also gave the idea about the pre-incubation, incubation facilities, innovation at IISU and various startups which has received various awards in different competition like Shrinkhla, Garden haat, Retrend jewels, etc. Further she discussed that what will be your role that participating in competitions, help in conducting events, attend meetings, providing support in reaching to other students and providing ideas and plan the project.
After the brief introduction of IIC the interactive session got started. Dr. Aditi R.Khandelwal welcomed Ms. SaloniSacheti founder of Baansuli. Ms. Saloni started the session with the basic introduction of what Social Entrepreneurship is all about, who is a Social Entrepreneur, what are the dimensions of Social Entrepreneurship and at last she discussed the difference between Entrepreneurship and Social Entrepreneurship. Later Ms. Saloni discussed how and from where she started her business. Ms. Salonitold that Baansuli is a treaty severance Baansmeans bamboo and suli means jewellery. She started her business from Dang; it is a district in Gujarat where there are a lot of bamboos. So, she decided to do something with the bamboos. She thought that women have to wear jewellery which is very heavy and sometimes because of the metal which are being used in the formation of that jewellery sometime caused some infection to the body. That is why she thought of starting Baansuli. In which she was going to produce long, durable and light weighted jewellery for women with the help of the locals of Dang. In this manner, she was providing employment to them with solving the heavy jewellery issue.
They specialized their product why writing something for them.
They market their products in different hotels, shops and emporium. They make corporate gifting as well. They are exhibiting from so many years in Dastkar, Jamnalabajaj hall, Anand bazar. They also have an online business on different social media platforms like WhatsApp business, Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/baansuli.dangs/?hl=en) and on Facebook pages and by collaborating with other brands they sell their product.
Ms. Salonidiscussed the impact of her business on the local people that how much they are earning from her business only. Now they can earn they are making their lifestyle more happening. They are business 3 wheelers, they are making FDs,they are providing education to their children. She got many awards by many renowned organizations for her business.At the end there were a Q&A session in which students asked their question to Ms. Salonireplied each one of them gracefully.
