REPORT Workshop on “Creating Awareness on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) & IP Management” Inaugural Session Jointly organised by CII in collaboration with Intellectual Property Office, Department for Promotion of Industrial & Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Govt. of India and IIS (Deemed to be University), on Creating Awareness on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) & IP Management held on the University premises on 11 February 2020. This workshop on IPR is being organized by IP Management Cell of the University Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) for all the students of IIS University. The Guest Speakers for the event were Miss Pallavi Mishra (Senior CII Rajasthan State Council Member & Vice Chairwoman- CII Indian Women Network (IWN) Rajasthan), Mr. Shankar Lal Meena (Examiner of Patents & Designs, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce and Industry), Mr. Vikas Asawat (Patent & Trademark Attorney, Kota), Mr. Anil Kumar Pandey (Deputy Director & Head CII-MoMSME Intellectual Property Facilitation Centre) Beginning the program by invoking the Almighty, the invited dignitaries, VC, Registrar and the Deans of the University, lighted the lamp and the Vandana was sung to usher in the auspicious moment. The chief guest Miss Pallavi Mishra (Senior CII Rajasthan State Council Member & Vice Chairwoman- CII Indian Women Network (IWN) Rajasthan), said that there are various IPR which are very useful for everyone who wish to get fame and earn. Now days startups and MSME people getting advantages earning IPR to compete in market with large commercial entities.
Dr. Ashok Gupta, VC, IIS (deemed to be University) then took the opportunity to welcome the gathering. He also elaborated on the need for Intellectual Property Rights as part of the curricula for India, particularly in view of its immense

significance as motivating for investment in R&D. He placed emphasis on recognizing the importance of the role of IP systems in the growth and enhancement of the socio-economic prosperity of a nation, in terms of strategic business planning. Mr. Shankar Lal Meena (Examiner of Patents & Designs, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce and Industry), indicated how much Govt. IP office are efficient now days. By express request for patent publication, now days the application got published next day. Most of the backlogs of IP application have finished recently. Timeline of the registration of various IP applications upgraded and minimized. At the end of the inaugural session, Dr. Pankaj Kumar gave the formal vote of thanks, wishing all the delegates a fruitful experience at the IPR Workshop. He describes the meaning and significance of IPR, and to explain the need for legally safeguarding one’s creative and innovative properties. He briefly highlighted the various aspects of IPR, such as Patents, Copyrights, Trademarks, etc., and invited the dignitaries to further acquaint the delegates with the various types of IPR and its significance. IPR Session 1 - Legal Requirements and Filing Procedures for Patent Protection in India The first session of the Workshop, on “Legal Requirements and Filing Procedures for Patent Protection in India” was conducted by Mr. Mr. Shankar Lal Meena, Examiner of Patents & Designs, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce and Industry. He shared what re the subject matter for patent, what information and document required getting patent, kinds of patent application, time-line of patenting, laws of the patent. The delegates then proceeded for refreshments before the special sessions of the day. Session 3: Importance of Designs and Trademarks for Business Entities & IP Management

The Second session of the Workshop, on “Importance of Designs and Trademarks for Business Entities & IP Management”, Mr. Vikas Asawat, Patent & Trademark Attorney from Kota differentiates various kinds of IPR and the competitive edge by means of IP management. He shared numerous well known examples and related IPR issues particularly on the aspects of Designs and Trademarks. Session 5: GI and its importance The third session of the Workshop, on “GI and its importance”, Mr. Anil Kumar Pandey, Deputy Director & Head CII-MoMSME Intellectual Property Facilitation Centre discussed all about the Geographical Indications with numerous Indian GI examples. He discussed GI importance in business context and how it different from other type of IPR. Its only IPR which is not granted to individual person but the society or the association of the individuals doing such specific business based on specific GI goods in a particular geographical area.
