Inaugural Session
A Patent Workshop had organized by the IP Cell of the IIS (deemed to be University) Jaipur in collaboration with Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of Rajasthan for Creating Awareness on Patent and other related Intellectual Property Rights (IPR). This was held on the University premises on 02 March 2020 where the participants were students and researchers from various faculties of IIS (deemed to be University) and the person interested from outside.
The following topics are covered in the aforesaid workshop:
1. Overview of IPRs and their importance (Introduction to patents, trademark, copyright, industrial design, SCLD, GI and plant variety);
2. Patents – importance, identification, filing process and case studies;
3. IPR Case Studies and Career Opportunities in IPR
4. Trademark and Geographical Indications – Importance, identification, registration process & case studies;
5. Copyrights and Industrial Design – importance, identification, registration and case studies;

Beginning the program by invoking the Almighty, the invited dignitaries, VC, Registrar and the Deans of the University, lighted the lamp and the Vandana was sung to usher in the auspicious moment.
Dr. Ashok Gupta, VC, IIS (deemed to be University) then took the opportunity to welcome the gathering. He also elaborated on the need for Intellectual Property Rights as part of the curricula for India, particularly in view of its immense significance as motivating for investment in R&D. He placed emphasis on recognizing the importance of the role of IP systems in the growth and enhancement of the socio-economic prosperity of a nation, in terms of strategic business planning.
Speaking about the workshop, Mr. Pankaj Kumar (Coordinator, IP Cell, IIS (deemed to be University), Jaipur highlighted the issues which may be solved by the present awareness program. Particularly he discussed why patent and related IPR needed to be considered by any educational institutions and any institutions investing resources on scientific research and developments works.
At the end of the inaugural session, Dr. Payal Mehtani gave the formal vote of thanks, wishing all the delegates a fruitful experience at the Patent Workshop. She describes the meaning and significance of IPR, and to explain the need for legally safeguarding one’s creative and innovative properties. She briefly highlighted the various aspects of IPR, such as Patents, Copyrights, Trademarks, etc., and invited the dignitaries to further acquaint the delegates with the various types of IPR and its significance.
The delegates then proceeded for refreshments before the special sessions of the day.
The first session of the Workshop, on “Overview of IPRs and their importance (Introduction to patents, trademark, copyright, industrial design, SCLD, GI and plant variety)” was conducted by Mr. Prateek Kasliwal (Founder & Proprietor, The Law Desk, Jaipur), said that there are various IPR which are very useful for everyone and further it help to earn fame too. He further introduce each and every IPR alongwith some examples. Now days startups and MSME people getting advantages earning IPR to compete in market with large commercial entities.
Dr. Rohit Jain (Managing Director, Trade Innovation Services, Jaipur) deliberates on Patents – importance, identification, filing process and case studies; Particularly he discussed what are not patentable in very detail, types of various kind of patent application etc
Ms. Archana Doval (Founder, Navtra IPR Services, New Delhi) dealt with some IPR Case Studies. She talked on Career Opportunities in IPR also.
Lunch served to the participants and others before continuing further sessions.
Mr. Pankaj Kumar (Coordinator, IP Cell, IIS (deemed to be University), Jaipur differentiates various kinds of IPR and the competitive edge by means of IP management. He shared numerous well known examples and related IPR issues particularly on the aspects of Trademarks and Geographical Indications. He discussed GI importance in business context and how it different from other type of IPR. Its only IPR which is not granted to individual person but the society or the association of the individuals doing such specific business based on specific GI goods in a particular geographical area. He distributed a table among the participants differentiating ten types of IPR.
Dr. Abhishek Tiwari (Deputy Director, University Law College, University of Rajasthan, Jaipur) talked on issues of Copyrights and Industrial Design. He highlighted the importance of IPR, how to register such IPR and what acts are not considered infringement of IPR.
